Have you ever had that experience where you take a glance of the most mundane thing but it causes you to feel unworthy because you know God just spoke? This happened to me this past Saturday at the SCM.
Tim and I got to the lot early and had a much needed time in the word and in prayer. My take away was about being present and becoming what people needed and fighting off the temptation to take what happens here for granted. Before the day was out I saw and heard evidence that the day was exactly what the neighbors needed.
Steve Connell invited a man that he approached at the Walgreens across the lot and the man responded that he had been praying that someone would reach out to the community in this way. We never know when we are the answered prayer!
The most powerful image and humbling experience I had was the image of the neighbor sleeping (picture above) while he waited for his laundry to finish. You'll notice the YooHoo can barely hanging on in his hand. How is it that amongst an open parking lot on a very busy intersection, with a group of strangers close by, music playing, and the laundry machines making a racket did he fall asleep? I didn't have the heart to wake him up and ask, but I would guess he felt so safe with us that he didn't need to be on his guard - so he passed out. I'm reminded of the mustard leaf producing shade in the oppressive heat and the refuge cities that God assigned in the Old Testament; I thank God for giving this man the trust in us he needed to feel this safe.
Thank you as always to the Hope Vibes volunteers who sign up to serve!
Lastly, it may be a small thing and of no eternal consequence, but having custom MMOG cornhole boards is pretty cool! Come on down and throw a few bags with the neighbors.
The SCM doesn't happen without your support - if your group would like to host a weekend or if you know of a business owner who might like to join us to offer their services or products, contact us and we'll get back with you ASAP.
Feeling left out? Don't! Meet us at the Street Corner on October 15th. See you there!

Fred Gutermuth - He has fallen asleep before and I thought it was nice that he felt comfortable/safe enough to fall asleep. It is very encouraging
