Making History?
I never know what cool stuff I'll find at the supply table; you give some really amazing items that get handed out each week. This week my favorite item was an infant bib that had the inscription: "Making History"; naturally I showed it to the one guy who would make the most of it - Tad Fischer (see pic above)! Tad and Lisa Fischer brought out the youth group crew from 704 Church and they served food, handed out supplies, and most of all offered a little Jesus love to whomever they sat with. We were also joined once again by our friends from A Giving Heart Project and River Church offering up their own brand of love and service. Thanks for joining us and we hope to see you again soon!
As you're serving and loving people you can't always be aware of all the moments that occur that touch our hearts so I try to include a couple here each week. This week I saw something I hadn't seen in a while - the volunteers closed up shop early enough and Tim found himself with a few minutes, so what did he do? He hung out with his favorite peeps - the kids (see pic above). This moment struck me because this was where Tim and I started our brotherhood - having fun and getting deep with the kids in a middle school ministry. It's wild to me to see what that has turned into...and that we still make time to connect with the kids.
I had an inspiring conversation with a guy about "imagine all that God could do with this ministry." He had grand images indeed, and I appreciated that he saw the value of judgment-free community building and how he didn't put limits in his head about what was possible. I left that conversation feeling something but not sure what it was. Then Tim sent me this video someone took of the most pure, honest, intimate moments I remember seeing to date at the SCM. I urge you to watch this short clip of Renee and her son because it so much encapsulates the moments we live for.
I realize that to some degree I'm in no rush to grow this quantitatively because I fear we could get lost in the logistics and operations. I've seen so many orgs lose touch with the humanity of those they hoped to help when they started. Watching the video reminded me that God will do what He will do and we will grow at His pace or not at all, but we don't need to make history, because this week we were a part of Renee's story and that's worth much more.
Thank you to Love In Action for our continued partnership in hosting us and letting us do what we do.
Thank you to Hope Vibes for providing the truck and for Earl's ingenuity to figure out a way to rally the troops when the water ran out due to someone taking an extra long shower!
The SCM doesn't happen without your support - if your group would like to host a weekend or if you know of a business owner who might like to join us to offer their services or products, contact us and we'll get back with you ASAP.
Feeling left out? Don't! Meet us at the Street Corner on April 1 - no joke. See you there!
