A beautiful day spent with beautiful people!
This past Saturday was a reminder for me that beauty can be found nearly everywhere if only I open my eyes to see it. It's easy to look at the condemned homes across the street, the outdated style of the nearby shopping center, the paint-chipped bus stop bench, and think that the area in which the SCM occurs is not safe due to its neglect.
Yet as I met new residents and neighbors, danced with the volunteers and youth, and spoke with the lot owners about the plans they have for the former hotel, I was shown the beauty within each person in the lot. I met Daphne (see pic above) who was so excited to receive her new hat that she smiled when I asked for her picture. Then there was our newest volunteer Elijah, who is finding how much he enjoys being a role model to the younger kids, posing with one of our youngest residents looking fly (see pic above).
Thank you so much to our close friends at Hope Vibes who joined us as always to provide showers and laundry and most of all HOPE!
Raul the Barber was kicking it live again with beats and trims non stop all day as he does best - I tried to convince a few guys to let Raul carve the MMOG logo into their heads but I didn't get any takers - what's that about?! The pic above is the back of Steve Williams head - I thought Raul should stop midway during his work and keep his head half trimmed but I guess not everyone shares my sense of humor.
The SCM doesn't happen without your support - if your group would like to host a weekend or if you know of a business owner who might like to join us to offer their services or products, contact us and we'll get back with you ASAP.
Feeling left out? Don't! Meet us at the Street Corner on January 21st. See you there!
